“Blind spots” device on heavy vehicles

The decree implementing article R. 313-32-1 of the highway code relating to blind spots on heavy vehicles comes into force today (January 6, 2021).

This long-awaited text specifies the number of stickers per vehicle, their positioning and the graphic charter of the visual, the vector file of which is available below.

The “Blind spots” device therefore makes it compulsory to indicate blind spots for vehicles> 3.5 T by means of stickers, the number of which varies depending on the type of vehicle, for example:

3 stickers for carriers,
6 for tractor + semi-trailer combinations.
Failure to comply with the signaling obligation will be punished with a 4th class fine, ie 135 € (90 € fine reduced).

This system has been in force since January 1, 2021. It concerns all vehicles traveling on French soil, including foreign vehicles.

The tolerance (non-verbalization) period is three months, or until March 31, 2021. It is very unlikely that it will be validated in writing by the administration. On the other hand, last December several deputies and a senator asked the government questions about the Blind corners device. These will be examined from next week and it is possible that in their answers there would be elements confirming this period of tolerance.

Finally, at the request of several European countries, at the end of 2020, the IRU sent the European Commission a letter asking it to act on France with regard to the Angles Morts system.
